Projeto-do-Samba
The Samba Group of the University of Music Lübeck, which was formed in the year 2001, plays Brasilian music in a wide variety of different styles: Samba-Batucada, Ilé Aiyê, Samba-Reggae, Maracatú, Funky-Samba, Pagode-Samba, Merengue and many others. The traditional rhythms of the Baterias-de-Samba, the great Samba schools of Rio de Janeiro and Salvador de Bahia, are played on original Brazilian instruments. Smaller groups receive the same attention as ensembles with percussion, melody and harmony instruments, or in particular instruments from the field of rock music. Events organised both within the University of Music Lübeck and externally are often greatly enriched with performances by the University Samba Group.
»Projeto-do-Samba« is open to all students and friends of the university. No previous knowledge is required and musicians can join in who have widely different knowledge and skills in the field of rythmics and percussion instruments. This applies to students from all fields and semester and also to anyone from outside the university who may be interested and wish to further their practical music skills.
The Samba group is directed by Dr. Michael Pabst-Krueger, lecturer in Music Pedagogy at the University of Music Lübeck. He studied School Music and during his professional career has obtained further qualifications in Latin American percussion. Since 1990 he has led the Samba groups for children and adults of all ages and abilities and gives regular percussion workshops for both music pedagogues and beginners.
