University Orchestra

Since the establishment of the University of Music Lübeck, participation in the university orchestra has been an important element of our challenging vocational training. Young musicians, whether they have set their sights on becoming a soloist, orchestra musician or pedagogue, are offered valuable practical experience in the great works of orchestra literature under the direction of a wide variety of celebrated conductors.

In our 14 day orchestra work phases, young musicians from all fields of instruction meet twice a day for several hours of rehearsal, which naturally take priority over all other study demands. At the end of a work phase, several concerts or opera performances have been prepared and their endeavours can be presented to a wide public. The programme not only includes the great works of symphonic and opera literature, which are an essential part of the standard repertoire of an orchestra musician, but also the works of contemporary musicians.

The University Orchestra has, from the very beginning, performed the opening concert for the Brahms Festival which is organised annually by the University of Music Lübeck and has become famous far beyond Lübeck's borders.

These performances offer the public superlative musical enjoyment accompanied by a unique insight into the instruction given at the University of Music Lübeck.
