Bachelor of Music
The Bachelor of Music is a four-year programme offering artistic studies in the following fields:
- almost every orchestra instrument as well as keyboard instruments and singing
- Church Music B
- Composition
- Theory
The study courses are designed to take the individual abilities of the students into consideration and aim to encourage optimal development of their artistic personality.
Therefore, on completion of the standard introductory programme in the first year, recommendations are made by the student's personal mentor regarding the main focus of study and the selection of options. Instruction in the main field of study remains central throughout.
In the course of their studies students can select main courses according to the diverse career possibilities open to them, continue specialisation in these fields or obtain basic skills in further areas. Knowledge in the main focus of study can be extended with appropriate options.
The following fields of study (compulsory modules) are available at present:
- Practical Music aimed towards the profession of performing musician in an orchestra or ensemble with Orchestra Studies, Old and New Music; Chamber Music. For singers: Music Theatre, Opera and Oratorio Project
- Conducting
- Popular Music, World Music and Jazz (theoretical and practical)
- Classical Musicology / Music Theory
- Teaching skills for music pedagogues – general and special subject didactics
- Teaching skills – elementary music pedagogy
The wide selection of options provides opportunities for further specialisation.
