Requirements of the Entrance Audition for Composers

Composition as a main field of study

Presentation of works composed by the applicant.

Piano as a compulsory subject 

Piano playing requirements correspond to those for instrumental piano as a main field of study. If there is evidence of good mastery of an orchestra instrument the piano requirements can be reduced.

Music Theory (written and practical)

Mastery of major-minor tonal harmonics including modulation, knowledge of and skills in simple work analysis. Questions on Music History, Music Theory and Contemporary Music. Evidence of creative talent, improvisation.

Aural Training (written)

Clear understanding of intervals, chords, correlation between rhythm and harmony.

Essay (written test)

Composition of an essay on a given subject regarding music of the 20th century.
