Entrance Audition

Entrance Audition Procedure

The entrance audition consists of a practical and a theoretical examination taken over a period of two days. The practical examination and the oral component of the theoretical examination (individual tests) are held on the first day and the theoretical examination (written) on the second day. The practical examination for the main subjects takes 30 minutes at the most, and the written examination approx. 60 to 90 minutes.

Please be present at the university at 8.00 a.m. on the date of the entrance audition. We will then issue an up-to-date schedule for the day. Those who do not arrive on time are, as a rule, excluded from the audition.

Rooms will be available for warm-up practice on the audition date. Piano accompaniment, should it be required for your examination, is provided by the university. Please inform us in good time, if you intend to bring your own piano accompaniment.

The results of the entrance audition will be forwarded to you in written form after they have been evaluated by the Examination Board. Please ensure that you receive your post during the holiday period.

Should you, for any reason whatsoever, be unable to attend the examination on the given date, the university must be informed immediately in writing. Your notification of non-attendance must arrive one day prior to the examination. If you fail to attend without prior notice, this will be regarded as a "taken and failed" status. No appointments will be given to take the entrance audition at a later date.

A successful entrance examination retains its validity for one year at the most , but can be retaken after this period of time has lapsed. A failed entrance audition may only be retaken once and not before the next official examination date.

Enrolment Instructions

On successful completion of the entrance audition, the university assesses whether a university place can be allocated to you. As the intake capacity of the university is limited, this will depend not only on the results of your entrance audition, but also on the chosen course of studies and the artistic main course.

If you are allocated a study place, you will be sent a written notification. This offer must be accepted by you in writing within the deadline stated in our letter. A telephone call will not be sufficient! The written offer, which you will receive with the enrolment forms, states which further documents should be submitted within the given time.

Please ensure that you receive important post during the holiday period!

Should you decide not to take up your study place at the University of Music Lübeck, please send us a written notification in good time so that your place can be offered to another applicant.

Succession Procedure

If we are unable to allocate you a study place, due to the results of your entrance audition and the number of applicants for your subject combination, we will offer to put you on our waiting list. This offer must be confirmed by you in writing, as we will otherwise assume that you do not wish to take part in our succession procedure. You will be notified as soon as a suitable place becomes available due to the withdrawal of another applicant. Please ensure that our post reaches you during the holiday period for as long as you are interested in this succession procedure.
