Postgraduate Study Solo Vocalist/Opera Elite Studio

The Theatre of Luebeck together with the University of Music Luebeck have established an “International Opera Elite Studio”. It is financed by the Possehl Foundation. The aim is to give an encompassing support for especially talented young singers during their transitional period between academic/artistic studies and the professional everyday life at an opera house. By that, these students will be prepared intensively for their upcoming profession which beside a solid vocal education also asks for a lot more of artistic and personal/social qualifications.

During the 2008/09 season the “International Opera Elite Studio” offers eight one-year-scholarships for singers of all categories. The scholarship holders will participate in four or five productions of the Theatre of Luebeck, where they may perform in especially selected roles (bigger roles may be covered only). Parallel to this practical engagement they study in a postgraduate program at the University of Music Luebeck. By that, the members of the “International Opera Elite Studio” have the possibility to collect practical experience in their potential future profession at an opera house. But they won’t be alone with these new experiences, because an individually designed study program will guide, support and help them at the same time. Therefore a middle size theatre like the one in Luebeck with its exciting broad repertoire may offer the best preconditions if it works together closely with the University of Music Luebeck that has an international reputation. Together, the theatre and the University of Music will provide and be responsible for a balanced study program, including individual adaptions for every person’s personal profile (artistic abilities, performance and even psychological training). By that, it is strongly hoped that the program may be executed in the most efficient way.
