Health

All students in Germany are obliged to have health insurance. You will, therefore, have to provide proof of your health insurance in Germany before you can register at our university. If you do not have this proof, you will not be able to study.

In principle, students can use a special Student Health Insurance Scheme which offers particularly favourable rates.

Students from countries which have concluded a social security agreement with Germany which includes an insurance clause, can continue to be covered by their home insurance company while they are in Germany. (Please inquire at your institution's International Office for details). In such cases, you will be required to present proof of insurance cover to the health insurance company in Germany.

Visa and permits

Foreign students wishing to enter Germany require a residence permit visa for educational purposes, issued by a diplomatic representation of Germany in the student's country of origin and entered into the passport.

Foreign students from EU countries do not require a visa to enter the country.

Neither do they need a residence permit, if the duration of their stay is less than 3 months.

You are urgently warned against entering the country as a tourist!

A tourist visa cannot be retrospectively converted into a visa or residence permit for educational purposes.
