As a foundation for a solo career, the four-semester concert exam programme offers exceptionally talented musicians with the following main subjects an additional range of courses:

  • Piano
  • String instruments / Harp
  • Woodwind and brass instruments
  • Guitar
  • Drums

Information on the Aptitude Test Process for the Summer Semester 2027

Application Period

  • September 1 through December 1, 2026, for all instruments and subjects in all degree programs
     

In-Person Phase of the Aptitude Tests

  • February 8 through 20, 2027
     

Application Format

  • The aptitude exam takes place in person at the MHL. For some degree programs, a video must be submitted during the application period. Information on technical and content requirements can be found in the respective program description.
  • Applications may only be submitted via the MUVAC portal. Written applications are not permitted and will not be accepted. Unnecessary documents submitted will not be returned but will be destroyed in accordance with data protection regulations.
     

Fees

  • A fee of 60 euros is charged for participation in the aptitude test process. Payment information can be found on the online application portal.
     

Note for Individuals with Special Needs

  • Study options and regulations regarding (aptitude) exams for individuals with special needs, as defined by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, are reviewed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the MHL’s examination regulations. German Language Proficiency: Note for International Prospective Students

  • As part of the aptitude exam, a German language test (Level B2) is required for all applicants whose native language is not German. Participation is mandatory. The test usually takes place on the evening of the day on which the primary artistic major is examined.
  • This does not apply to »concert exams« and »master classes«!
