We celebrate the organ - Instrument of the Year 2021
Taking the place of the Instrument of the Year in 2021 is the organ, making it the first keyboard instrument to be declared Instrument of the Year. The organ is considered the queen of instruments and is the largest musical instrument in the world. Since 2017, organ music and organ building have been recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
"Each organ is unique because it is built solely for the architectural space in which it is to sound. The highly specialized knowledge and special skills necessary for organ building and organ music have been developed by craftsmen, composers and musicians over thousands of years." (Prof. Dr. Christoph Wulf, German UNESCO Commission)
Every year, the Schleswig-Holstein State Music Council selects the instrument of the year in order to present it to a broad public in numerous events together with cultural partners beyond the state borders. The MHL also invites you to a journey of discovery of a special kind. During the course of the year, the MHL organ classes will present the instrument of the year and Lübeck's diverse organ landscape. Look forward to sounds from the Stellwagen organ, Great organ and Richborn Positiv from St. Jakobi, as well as the Marcussen organ and Italian Baroque organ from Lübeck Cathedral. Dates will follow soon at this place.
