
Daniel Sebastian Scholz was born in Tübingen. He studied psychology in Marburg with a neurophysiological and clinical focus. He then studied jazz composition with Niels Klein in Osnabrück with a supplementary subject of jazz guitar with Joachim Schönecker, Andreas Wahl and Frank Wingold. At the same time, he completed his doctorate at the Centre for Systemic Neuroscience in Hanover. From 2011, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Music Physiology and Musicians' Medicine (IMMM) under the direction of Prof. Dr. Eckart Altenmüller at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH). There, he worked on the effects of music on the brain and on mental and physical health as part of many international research projects. He also taught as a lecturer in the areas of jazz composition and arrangement and educational psychology at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media from 2015 to 2019. Since May 2021, Scholz has also been a licensed clinical psychological psychotherapist specialising in behavioural therapy with a focus on the mental health of music makers. He plays guitar, oud and piano, among other things in the psycho-rap-rock band "Ego Super" and is co-founder and operator of his own record label "quadratisch rekords".
