Since 2023, Sophie Lücke has been professor of double bass at the Lübeck University of Music and principal double bassist with the Ensemble Resonanz in Hamburg. Her love of music began in Wernigerode, where she received her first double bass lessons from Andreas Nettels. Her studies took her to Berlin with Janne Saksala and London with Rinat Ibragimov. Inspiration from Esko Laine, Nabil Shehata, Klaus Stoll, Joel Quarrington and Evgeny Kolosov, as well as courses in historical performance practice with Kristin von der Goltz and Reinhard Goebel, broadened her musical outlook. At the age of 20, Sophie Lücke was awarded a scholarship from the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and two years later became principal double bass in the Munich Chamber Orchestra. This was followed by years as a guest solo bassist in major symphony orchestras. From 2014 to 2023 she was principal bass at the Gärtnerplatztheater. She is also a founding member of the ensemble der/gelbe/klang für aktuelle Musik. Sophie Lücke taught as a substitute at the Bern University of the Arts in 2013/2014 and gave masterclasses in São Paulo, México City, Hong Kong and Pyongyang. Sophie Lücke has returned to her true origins as an ensemble and chamber musician by playing regularly in ensembles such as the Basel Chamber Orchestra, Les Siecles, Les Dissonance, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Scottish and Mahler Chamber Orchestras and at festivals such as Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Davos and Zermatt. In recent years, her regular collaboration with Klangforum Wien has led to an increased interest in contemporary music. Working with composers such as Aperghis, Saunders, Furrer and Lachenmann and with conductors such as Pomarico and Wiegers has inspired and enriched her life.
