With the new professorship for musician health, the MHL together with the University of Lübeck (UzL) has created a new centre for medical counselling and treatment for music professionals with specialisation in neurological, psychological and psychotherapeutic topics throughout Germany. Prof. Dr. Daniel Sebastian Scholz represents the subject, which has received 600,000 euros in start-up funding from the Possehl Foundation Lübeck, in research, teaching and counselling. The neuroscientist, psychologist, behavioural therapist and musician is dedicated to the mental health of musicians. In close cooperation with the neurology department of the UzL in the Centre of Brain, Behaviour and Metabolism (CBBM), initial research projects are being carried out on the topics of mental stress and the neuronal plasticity of music students. Lectures on the basics of healthy music making, on the neuroscience of music as well as seminars on the treatment of stage fright are aimed at students of the MHL and the UzL. In addition, a counselling centre for music makers will be created in the Tesdorpfhaus.
