Chamber Music Campus Lübeck

The chamber music tradition at the MHL
Chamber music as the supreme discipline of making music together is practiced particularly intensively at the University of Music Lübeck (MHL). With its Chamber Music Campus Lübeck, the MHL offers ideal conditions for a concentrated examination of the musical work. Renowned guest lecturers accompany the participating ensembles and promote artistic self-determination.

Lecturers

Eckart Runge (cello) studied with Edmond Baert in Brussels and David Geringas in Lübeck, as well as with the Alban Berg Quartet in Vienna. For thirty years he was cellist of the Artemis Quartet, with whom he performed worldwide. Recordings by the ensemble have received numerous awards, including the Diapason d'Or, the Grammophone Award, and the ECH0-Klassik. In 2019, he decided to go his own artistic way, dedicating himself to border crossings of different musical genres, in addition to solo and chamber music projects. In 2020, his debut album was released with the first recording of the jazzy Cello Concerto op. 85 by Nikolai Kapustin and the 1st Cello Concerto by Alfred Schnittke. As a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Chapelle de la Reine Elisabeth Brussels, Eckard Runge has been passing on his experience to younger musicians since 2005. Eckart Runge plays a rare cello made by the brothers Hieronymus and Antonio Amati in Cremona in 1595, generously loaned to him by Merito String Instrument Trust Vienna.

Gerald Fauth (piano) studied at the Dresden Conservatory with Wolfgang Plehn and Amadeus Webersinke. After receiving his diploma, he did additional studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. From 1987 to 1990 he was a master student at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. He won several first prizes at international competitions. In 1992 he was appointed professor of piano and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. Since 2001 he has been teaching at the Leipzig Academy of Music. As a soloist he has worked with major orchestras. He has given numerous concerts in Germany and abroad and has made guest appearances as a partner of leading instrumentalists in Europe, America and Asia. He is active as a juror in national and international competitions and as a lecturer in master classes. Gerald Fauth is director of the International Mendelssohn Academy Leipzig. Numerous students of his class have been awarded prizes at piano and chamber music competitions.
