The pedagogical Master of Education "Teaching Music" replaces, together with the Bachelor of Arts "Teaching Music", the State Examination course of Music Education. It is the prerequisite for acceptance into the scholastic preparatory training (traineeship). At MHL, a Master's Degree can be fully completed when the student has elected a Master of Education in music as a two-subject model. With the combination of a second subject, the studies of the second subject take place at the Universitys of Hamburg or Luebeck (in Luebeck Maths olny).
The artistic and professional academic principles are taught in the Bachelor of Arts. Therefore, the Master's program is based on the scholastic environment: the focus of the Master of Education is based on the school level-specific and age-overlapping perspectives of today's Music Education. Important components of the Master's program are thus different placements in the school classroom. Important parts of the course for school music are also ensembles, such as choir, pop choir, orchestra, percussion ensemble, band and big band. School-oriented work for the artistic and application-related area of music in ensemble and as an accompaniment (guitar/piano) is particularly prevalent.
The current Module Handbook will soon be available here.
Qualification objectives according to accreditation:
The two degrees of the program "Teaching Music" go beyond pursuing the objectives of achieving the professionally-related goals of music acquisition. Both are part of a personal development process that enables the ability to engage oneself socially.
From a curricular point of view, it mainly affects the disciplines of Educational Science and Music Education, which through their hermeneutic orientation, are properly aligned in terms of questioning and meaningfullness. In this respect, both subjects are to be essentially understood beyond their internal derivation (danger of self-reference) than in a much wider anthropological and social responsibility context. The postulate of a genre-openness towards all music is thus inevitable for the curricular structure of the course.
The qualification objectives of the Master of Education include:
