The Concert Exam offers exceptionally talented musicians an additional study opportunity – as a basis for a solo career.
Course of Studies
The course offering consists of lessons in the major subject on the selected instrument. The final "Concert Exam" comprises two parts: a public concert and a concert performance with orchestra.
Admission requirements for proficiency test
The prerequisite for admission is a concert exam with a grade of "very good" completed artistic master’s, a corresponding degree or several years of work experience in a distinguished position.
Requirements of the proficiency test
A program of the highest level of difficulty is expected in the proficiency test. The program should include works from different periods, including the 20th and 21st Century. In addition, it should offer at least 90 minutes of music (strings, pianists and organists), or 60 minutes (wind, percussionists and singers). For strings and wind instrumentalists, representative solo concerts to be part of the program. Generally, the works must be performed in their entirety: no individual movements.
Final exam
The final exam exists of two parts.
The first part is a recital of 90 minutes length. For this concert, two programs must be submitted, and one of these will be selected three months before the concert date. Both program suggestions must include compositions of different periods including the 20th/21st century.
The second part is a solo concert with orchestra. Also for this concert, two program suggestions have to be submitted. In case the university is not able to offer a concert with an orchestra, a second recital must be performed. In this case the not selected program of the first part may be submitted again as one suggestion.
