The four-semester programme is aimed at the teaching profession at grammar schools and community schools, preferably with an upper school. It is aimed at applicants who, after studying instrumental/vocal pedagogy or art, wish to make a lateral entry into a teacher training programme with music as a double subject. It is the basis and entrance qualification for the teacher traineeship. The prerequisite for admission to the aptitude test is an artistic-pedagogical Bachelor's degree (instrumental/vocal pedagogy, church music or music theory/aural training).
Study contents
The study programme is oriented towards the current tasks of music teaching in the school environment. The artistic-practical training is deepened in the Master's degree programme with a special focus on applied piano playing and music-making practice in schools. In the in-depth modules, teaching-related practical music competences that were not acquired in the respective preliminary studies are taught. They also offer scope for individual profile formation for the double subject of music. Central components of the Master's degree programme are several school placements, which are carried out during the course of study at schools in the immediate vicinity. Students can try out teaching practice in the fields of secondary level I and II as well as in the AG area and are individually accompanied and intensively prepared for the teaching profession. In the modules Educational Science and Music Education, students deal comprehensively with current scientific topics and acquire well-founded competences for the working field of school. In addition, in the final module (Master's thesis), students acquire and deepen their academic competences, which also qualify them for doctoral studies.
