MASTER OF MUSIC

Accompaniment / Coaching
The Accompaniment / Coaching degree programme is designed for musicians with existing experience as duet and chamber music partners. Students should already have developed outstanding technical and musical quality standards within the scope of a bachelor degree. Tonal introspection and the ability to directly pick up on and react to partners are indispensable requirements for the degree programme, along with preferably accomplished skills in complex rhythm, dynamics, articulation and phrasing. The ability to play on sight should already be finely honed.

The degree programme serves to develop and consolidate a standard repertoire in the fields of strings, wind instruments and vocals. The repertoire encompasses the playing of duet sonatas as well as piano scores from instrumental solo concert and opera literature and the lied duet repertoire.

Studies require keen communication skills and an interest in other instruments, vocals and other creative musicians with whom rehearsals and performance are undertaken. All these qualities will be practically supported through cooperation in various ensembles throughout the entire period of studies. Starting with an existing basic repertoire, this will be constantly expanded to incorporate other instruments. This additionally involves extensive work shadowing the classes, lessons and recitals of other tutors in order to learn as much as possible about the specific difficulties of coping with a string or wind instrument or vocals, which includes recitals and/or other concert performances.

Training also includes playing in a chamber music group of three musicians or more.

Particularly important is the ability to distinguish between pianist partner requirements for working with vocalists, string and wind instrument musicians, and be able to respond to the various needs of a partner.

You can find a detailed presentation of the course schedule here.
