MASTER OF MUSIC

Elementary Music Pedagogy
The course is aimed at applicants who already have a bachelor degree in Arts or teaching and who want to expand their qualification into elementary music education and consolidate their artistic competence.

The professional perspectives of EMP focus on the mediation of musical training in all age groups. In addition to instrumental/vocal practice, this also includes movement and dance. Graduates will be in a position to communicate musical experiences to groups within different social contexts, with enhanced social skills and an understanding of social realities being a prerequisite in this respect. Drawing on their own advanced artistic competence, graduates are able to creatively teach at various different levels and possess highly developed improvisation skills. Along with musical expression, graduates will also have developed expressive movement.

They are independently able to devise and deliver teaching units for classes ranging from pre-school children through to senior citizens, thereby incorporating singing and a host of instruments in addition to movement and dance.

What are frequently disparate social situations require confident and steadfast personalities able to convincingly mediate the connective and aesthetic power of music.

The aim is to attain an autonomous level of artistic expression and bring it to bear in educational work. Graduates should be able to critically reflect on and evaluate teaching processes and thereby constantly enhance their didactic skills. They should also be able to independently develop and realise new programmes specifically aimed at the target groups in question.

EMP is designed to cover an extremely wide spectrum of expressive options in connection with music. Consequently, in addition to advanced one-to-one tuition in the major subject instrument and vocals, study also encompasses a host of subjects that along with the mediation of educational/didactic knowledge and skills also centre on music, movement and elementary music theatre. Children’s choir conducting and participation in a percussion ensemble also supplement the qualification profile.

The commensurate career prospects are diverse, extending well beyond employment at music schools to include mainstream schools and extracurricular institutes. Demand is constantly increasing and, as a result, occupational prospects are extremely good
